How can we train our cats to let us touch their paws?
You can train a cat to let you touch their paws. It is the most easy if you start with a kitten. You can play with your kitten and touch him all over. Your kitten will get used to you touching their belly, tail, and paws.
With an adult cat, it will take more time and patience. Always gently talk to your cat while training.
When your cat is snuggling, gently touch his front paw. Do not grab it, just lightly touch the top. Give your cat a treat right after you touch their paws. You can do this several times during the day Do this for several days until cat seems comfortable with you touching their paw.
Next step is to gently squeeze their paw. Don't pick up their paw, just wrap your hand around their paw and give a gentle squeeze. Then give your catva treat. Do this for several days until cat seems very comfortable.
Next you will slowly lift their paw up. Wrap you hand around paw like you are going to squeeze it then lift the paw up and hold it for a few seconds. Give a treat. Do this until your cat seems comfortable with it.
Now you can gently massage their paw and toe beans. Be very gentle. When your cat lets you do this, you have earned their complete trust.
You can go through the same steps for the back paws. This may take more time. Cats aren't used to these paws touching anything but the ground. Cats reach out with front paws and touch things, so the sensation of you touching them is not so alien. If you want to be able to touch back paws, be very patient as you work to train your cat.
My cat Marley let's me touch his paws. He love paw massages. I can trim his nails easily because he is not scared to let me hold his paw.
